Two fresh graduates of BA(Hons) in Design (Visual Communication) (class of 2012) recently received awards with their final year projects under supervision of Hung Keung, Assistant Professor of PolyU Design.
With the project “MINGLE”, Ms Karen ZHANG Xiaowen was named the winner of Honorable Mention Award of 2012 Adobe Design Achievement Awards, announced at the DesignThinkers 2012 conference in Toronto, Ontario.
Ms Quai CHAN Wing Kei, impressed the judges with a contemporary Almanac “Not a Theory”. She won the CreateSmart Young Design Talent Special Award 2012 and received a sponsorship of HK$250,000 for overseas work attachment.

2012 Adobe Design Achievement Awards
Karen ZHANG Xiaowen’s project “MINGLE” won Honorable Mention Award of 2012 Adobe Design Achievement Awards, an occasion organized to recognise top talent among next-generation designers. MINGLE is a mobile application design project aiming at filling up the void we often missed when engaging online. It is an expressive social app that develops and paces your relationship with your friends, even when apart. The award winners were announced at a ceremony at the DesignThinkers 2012 conference in Toronto, Ontario.
CreateSmart Young Design Talent Special Award 2012
“Not a Theory” the contemporary Almanac, the final year project by Quai CHAN Wing Kei, won the CreateSmart Young Design Talent Special Award 2012, a competition hosted by Hong Kong Design Centre with a view to highlight and nurture the best up-and-coming local young practitioners and design graduates to undergo overseas training and/or work attachment at renowned design firms or institutes. Quai was rewarded with a sponsorship of HK$250,000 for overseas work attachment, in recognition of her potential and design talents. “Not a Theory,” used the traditional values of the Almanac as the basic concept, in addition of the contemporary contents which close to our modern life.
