Project: Seaweedscape
Supervising tutor: Valerie Portefaix
Award: Student Category Bronze Award

The seaweed farming concept is derived from the combination of farming and harvesting in a recreational environment into Lei Yue Mun typhoon center. The seaweed farming will be utilized in various rational structure sizes based on different sizes, color and water conditions. When the rational structures connect together, it will create a giant landscape in the sea. The seaweedscape will have different edges due to changes from tidal waves.

This all-in-one chair features functions of high chair, walker, kid’s chair and stool, which meeting the needs of different growing stages of baby. When a baby starts to eat solid food, the high chair makes the baby eat with parents at the same level. Walker helps the baby to start walking by him/herself, while being a stool it is for the parents to play with their babies in the walk-learning stage. The chair keeps baby in a reasonable constraint. It is also a specifically engineered device which enables the REUSE of second-hand components revived from the e-wastes stream.

The Sounds Amass has two basic versions (the ‘Amass-Duo’ and ‘Amass-Uno’) with various upgradable possibilities. While ‘Amass-Duo’ is equipped with a detachable megaphone, wireless microphone and the basic loudspeaker system, ‘Amass-Uno’ features smart phone docking and LED lighting. Both models could help to facilitate various activities such as small parties, street performances, small forums, protests, and social gathering. The devices can be rented and/or leased from convenience stores and community halls. Consumer can review its availability and access to its rental service through the Internet or the use of smart phone apps.

Mr SO Ho Lung, Bosco & Mr CHO Hing, Nathan
BA(Hons) in Design (Environment & Interior), Class of 2012
Project: Greenshaft   (note: This is not a final-year project but an assignment on Redemptive Landscape Architecture.)
Supervising tutor: Michael Chan
Award: Certificate of Excellence of Architecture, Student Category

The designers transform the Vent Shaft to a welcoming popular public space and Iconic infrastructure. They aim to utilize the Vent Shaft in Victoria Harbour as an iconic architecture that emerging the concept of green (sustainability) and functional requirement together, and to promote the notion of balancing the problem form urbanization and changing people’s mind set of getting rid of infrastructure.

This project deals with the challenge of introducing an unwanted engineering structure into an existing park setting. The approach was to detail the shaft in a way that would lend it a sense of finesse rarely associated with a structure of this type. A cladding of steel fins layers provides textural detail, while the interplay between the inner structure and cladding is exploited further by profiling the top of each with opposing curves to develop visual complexity.
